Do you have a dyslexic student who struggles with self-esteem?
Would you like your child to learn self-advocacy skills?
Would you like to network with both students and adults in the dyslexia community?

Meet the Decoding Dyslexia UT Youth Advocates

We are a group of 12 – 18 year old dyslexic students who are committed to helping others with learning differences to recognize their strengths, to help build confidence and to provide them with the tools to become strong self-advocates. We also do community outreach speaking to teacher groups, to the general public and to our legislators.

We host four meetings a year: three workshops and one social event. Past events have included:
  • Self-Advocacy 101: Dyslexia basics and the importance to self-advocacy.
  • My Dyslexia Story: How to build a presentation to share with teachers to explain how you learn best.
  • Be Your Own Superhero: Finding your strengths and learning how to use them to succeed.
  • Assistive Technology: What it is and how it helps.

In addition to formal presentations, Youth Advocate events are not only a great place for dyslexic kids to meet others who have similar struggles but also an excellent forum for parents to network.

If you would like to know about future DDUT Youth Advocate events or how to become a Youth Advocate in the future, join the DDUT Newsletter mailing list by emailing decodingdyslexiaut@gmail.com or follow DDUT on Facebook.
